Important Reminder from Ministry of International Trade & Industry (MITI)

IMPORTANT REMINDER FROM MINISTRY OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE & INDUSTRY (MITI):

On behalf of the Malaysian Government, Ministry of International Trade & Industry (MITI) has issued a letter yesterday (26 November 2020) to remind and warn industries to take responsibility and pay serious attention in ensuring the welfare and health of the workers are protected. Companies must comply with Section 24J, the Minimum Standards for Housing, Accommodation and Facilities of Employees Act 1990 (Act 446) which is about the duties and responsibilities related to the safety and health of employees. Companies also need to comply with the SOPs set for their respective sectors and conduct regular COVID-19 test screening on all employees at their own cost and initiative.

If a company is found to breach the prescribed SOPs and does not cooperate with MOH, the Government will take action to close the premise and factory under Section 18 (1) (d), Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).
