[MEDIA STATEMENT] MINISTRY OF HEALTH MALAYSIA – NEW STRATEGIES FOR MITIGATING KLANG VALLEY SURGE OF COVID-19 CASES

Ministry of Health Malaysia issued a media statement regarding the New Strategies for Mitigating Klang Valley Surge of COVID-19 Cases – media statement as follows:

The Greater Klang Valley Special Task Force (GKVSTF) was established to urgently address the rising number of COVID-19 admissions and burden on the health care system. The task force will focus on the following areas:

  1. Clinical Care;
  2. COVID-19 Assessment Centres (CAC) and Home Monitoring;
  3. Epidemiology;
  4. Medical and General Logistics;
  5. Frontliner Social Support Systems;
  6. Human Resources and Finances; and
  7. Strategic Communications.

The following strategies were identified for immediate action.

First, Selayang Hospital will be turned into a full COVID-19 hospital, the fourth of its kind in the Klang Valley, Non-COVID-19 patients at Selayang Hospital will be decanted to private hospitals in the region to increase bed capacity for COVID-19 patients in Categories 3, 4 and 5. ‘Operation Selayang’ is already underway and should complete within the next 48 hours, providing up to 450 beds for COVID-19 care.
