Matrade: Malaysia's exports to reach RM1 tril in August

The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) is optimistic that Malaysia’s exports for the first eight months of 2022 will reach RM1 trillion, based on encouraging trade performance right now.

Chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz said that to date, the country has recorded an average of RM125 billion worth of exports per month, and is on track to maintain the same performance for the rest of the year.

From January to July 2022, Malaysia's total trade stood at RM1.607 trillion, with exports at RM873.07 billion and imports at RM734.51 billion.

EUROCHAM Malaysia’s Attendance To The MITI Dialogue 2022 (Dialog MITI 2022) At The Ministry Of International Trade And Industry (MITI)

EUROCHAM Malaysia attended the MITI Dialogue 2022 last week which was held at the Ministry of International Trade and Investment (MITI) and used as a platform to discuss strategies and find the best solutions for developing the country’s trade and investment ecosystem.

The dialogue was chaired by Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, the Senior Minister of the Ministry of International Trade and Investment. There were two sessions included in the dialogue, EUROCHAM Malaysia attended the second session which was also attended by the foreign-based and services industry and associations, business councils, and chambers of commerce. This engagement welcomed the appropriate measures to be considered in the preparation of Budget 2023 which is expected to be tabled in October 2022.

The Budget 2023 Consultation

EUROCHAM Malaysia attended the Budget 2023 Consultation that was held at the Ministry of Finance (MOF) on 23rd August 2022. The session was also attended by various sectors including private, education, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), international organisations (IOs), and civil society organisations who proposed the appropriate measures to be considered in the preparation of Budget 2023, which is expected to be tabled in October 2022.

The consultation included two sessions chaired by Deputy Finance Minister 1, Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah, and Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz respectively, and the closing speech by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

EUROCHAM Malaysia thanks the Ministry of Finance (MOF) for extending the invitation for our chamber to be part of this predominant session. We look forward to more engagements and sessions like these to collaborate with the relevant ministries and authorities to provide continuous support and enforcement as well as create awareness through an array of promotional and advocacy programs and campaigns.
