Malaysia adopts a territorial scope of taxation and the Malaysian Inland Revenue Board (“MIRB”) has introduced the self-assessment system with effect from the Year of Assessment (“YA”) 2004. Under the self-assessment system, an assessment is deemed to be made by the tax authorities on the day the return is submitted.
