6 MPs to defend palm oil-based biofuel against EU

Six Malaysian lawmakers will visit Europe next month to counter the European Union’s (EU) proposed resolution to curb the use of palm oil-based biofuel by 2020.
Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong (picture) said the September visit would come just after summer (in Europe) in order to leverage on the most number of EU lawmakers and officials.
“We are getting dates that are mutually agreeable to the most number of organisations and EU MPs.
“The purpose of our six MPs’ visit to Europe is to engage with them, answer their questions and clear their doubts…and to provide them with the full facts and figures on the palm oil industry,” he told a press conference after attending a luncheon organised by the EU-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

EUMCCI Launches Europa Awards for Sustainability 2017

The EUMCCI (EU-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce & Industry) recently held the launch of the Europa Awards for Sustainability 2017 at the Sheraton Imperial in Kuala Lumpur. The Awards seek to recognize companies that have shown exemplary business excellence in the field of sustainability and contributed to the long term benefit of Malaysian society and economy.
EUMCCI’s flagship Europa Awards returns in 2017 with a new and more comprehensive range of award categories consistent with the European Union’s sustainable development values. There are seven featured categories in total, including Best Sustainability Reporting, Best Innovation in Sustainability, Best Social Impact, Best Environment Impact, and Best Sustainability Leader (awarded to individuals).
In order to execute the awards with greater authoritative standing, EUMCCI has joined forces with KPMG Malaysia to provide the necessary skills and logistics for evaluating shortlisted companies and nominating the winners. Ms. Kasturi Nathan, Advisory Partner and Head of Sustainability of KPMG, expressed the auditor’s excitement to collaborate on this initiative for the crucial values that it promotes.

EU Akan Sambung Kembali FTA Dengan Malaysia Tahun Ini

KUALA LUMPUR -- Rundingan Perjanjian Perdagangan Bebas (FTA) Malaysia-Eropah (EU) yang terhenti, akan disambung semula tahun ini, kata Duta Besar yang juga Ketua Delegasi EU ke Malaysia, Maria Castillo-Fernandez.
Beliau berkata Ketua Perunding Negara Anggota EU akan membuat pelancaran semula cadangan rundingan semula itu bulan depan di Brussels, Belgium, bagi menentukan 'bila dan bagaimana'.
Castillo-Fernandez berkata Malaysia dan EU mempunyai asas kukuh untuk memuktamadkan rundingan dalam tempoh masa yang munasabah.
