This is particularly so in view of increasing consumers' acceptance of the oil because of its guaranteed quality and safety, versatility in applications, functionality and nutritional benefits.

Proving its commitment to sustainable development is one of the most daunting problems facing the oil palm industry. Led by large plantation companies and assisted by very successful research development (R&D) initiatives in both the public and private sectors, the industry has a long and impeccable record of self-regulation and compliance with all regulations and local requirements.

Likewise, the Malaysian oil palm industry has adhered to the principles of sustainability right from the beginning, and current practices remain committed towards the three pillars of sustainability, namely people, planet and prosperity.

There are several innovative and proactive actions that members of the Malaysian oil palm industry have motivated to create, promote and support innovative models of sustainable production and consumption. These continue to resonate well with the components of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).
