VTL Between Malaysia, Singapore will Stimulate Post-COVID Economic Recovery

The implementation of the land and air Vaccinated Travel Lanes (VTL) will act as a catalyst to spur the post COVID-19 economic recovery in both countries, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad said.

He said that it was especially true for Johor, as the state was Singapore’s nearest neighbour and the presence of Singaporeans travellers would stimulate the economy, as the island state had long been Johor’s biggest investor.

The VTL represented a ray of happiness to Malaysians and Singaporeans, allowing the resumption of ties that were ‘severed’ during the COVID-19 pandemic, he added, saying that it would bring much needed relief to citizens in both countries following the closing of borders almost 20 months ago.

BOOSTER DOSE, LATEST RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE TECHNICAL WORKING COMMITTEE (TWG)

A media statement has been issued by the Ministry of Health Malaysia regarding Booster Dose, Latest Recommendations from The Technical Working Committee (TWG) – media statement as follows:

The Drug Control Authority (DCA) has approved the Comirnaty vaccine, product of Pfizer-BioNTech, CoronaVac vaccine, product of Sinovac/Pharmaniaga Lifescience and AstraZeneca vaccine for use as a booster dose.

Further to that, the Technical Working Committee (TWG) under the COVID-19 Booster Immunization Action Body (CITF-B) has recommended a booster dose be given to all residents aged 18 and over with priority appointments given according to age (age step down approach); frontline officers; individuals with comorbidities; pregnant women; and the need to travel overseas.

Healthcare Sector Committee Meeting

EUROCHAM Malaysia conducted our first hybrid committee meeting with the Healthcare sector committee. Mr. George Kazzi, Head of the Healthcare Sector Committee attended the meeting physically with us here at our office. We were also virtually joined by Mr. Jari Niemi, Deputy Head of the Healthcare Sector Committee alongside other committee members.

During the committee meeting, we shared and discussed the COVID-19 situation in Malaysia and globally as well as the position paper about the current matters and concerns of the healthcare industry in local and foreign business.
