KUALA LUMPUR, MARCH 31, 2022 – EUROCHAM Malaysia concludes the first quarter of the year on a high note by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB) as part of its ongoing effort to advance sustainability efforts and Green Industry Transformation within the EU and Malaysia business communities.
The MoU with UNGCMYB, will see and explore future opportunities to create awareness and training initiatives on the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ESG, and other sustainability initiatives, and their impact on relevant stakeholders to promote the alignment of organisational strategies.
The Executive Director of UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB), Mr Faroze Nadar said, “A key aim of our collaboration, is to enable and accelerate sustainable actions and impact of businesses in Malaysia. With this MoU, both EUROCHAM Malaysia and UNGCMYB will be able to leverage our collective network and programs to support businesses and broader stakeholders to make sustainability a core agenda, which in turn enable us to develop a pipeline of sustainability advocates that will actively contribute to Malaysia’s journey in becoming a sustainable nation.”
Accordingly to EUROCHAM Malaysia CEO, Mr. Sven Schneider, “I am confident that this collaboration with UNGCMYB will allow us to enhance sustainability efforts among the business community by increasing joint initiatives, programmes, and projects. With the EU Green Deal and Green Industry Transformation shaping up in Europe and the ASEAN region, this collaboration is also an opportunity to share best practices and exchange knowledge for the benefit of Malaysia and the EU.”
UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB the official Malaysia and Brunei chapter of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), is known as the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative which aims to support companies in conducting business responsibly by aligning their strategies and operations with the Ten Principles that covers the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption and encourages companies to take strategic actions to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
EUROCHAM Malaysia Chairman, Mr Oliver Roche witnessed the signing of the MOU and added, “the MoU with UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB) marks another milestone for EUROCHAM Malaysia’s and matches our strong commitment to advocate for sustainability, share knowledge, and experience with private and public sector stakeholders. Furthermore, it represents our contribution as Team Europe to the sustainable development goals here in Malaysia.”
The signing of the MoU was held at UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB)’s office, which resides at the Pinnacle, Petaling Jaya. The strategic partnership with UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB) was signed by Mr. Faroze Nadar, Adj. Professor, Executive Director of UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB) and EUROCHAM Malaysia CEO, Mr. Sven Schneider, witnessed by EUROCHAM Malaysia Chairman, Mr. Oliver Roche, representatives from UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB), and representatives from EUROCHAM Malaysia.
